- 20:53 I phoned my mum for Australian Mother's Day today and spoke to my dad as well. He was pleased I was right into being Dad. #
Edit: holy shit it just finished. I thought there was at least 1/2 an hour of story left in it. Now I am SUPER confused.

we got very very drunk and danced lots - which was just what was needed.
today i mainly kicked everyone out of my house so i could get to Coventry to help Janine move out of her ex's house... we may have done a few things as revenge for what he's done... which may have involved laxatives, prawns and mice...
Edgar the Herman tortoise is now all moved in, but my 2 boys aren't too sure about him yet...

Also, while I was waiting for a train at Finsbury Park station, a red-faced, harassed-looking man came up to me and asked whether I spoke English - ace!!!

I have been reading both the best and worst web comics.
arkady has long said she could draw one if someone wrote one, and I've read Your Webcomic Is Bad And You Should Feel Bad and TV Tropes so much that storylines are starting to run through my head.
So. How to make a GODDAMN FORTUNE on the web from PURE EVIL: push EMOTIONAL FETISH PORN.
Transgender wish fulfilment. Characters randomly switching gender and having sex. The Wotch does this with the drawing skills of a child. Who can't draw. They ruthlessly plunder the wallets of their hapless devotees. And it's not even porn!
Furry porn. Arkady has already considered this. She has a massive advantage over most furry artists by knowing a damn thing about anatomy and perspective.
Furry transgender wish fulfilment porn. The "plot" should be Mills and Boon level soap opera. Just enough to make the hopelessly exploited and addicted fans feel it's not evil to follow avidly. Emotional wank fodder. DONATIONS NEEDED! HELP US KEEP UP THE SCHEDULE!
Furry transgender wish fulfilment gamer porn. This might be pushing it.
How will we sleep at night? On a huge, soft, comfy pile of MONEY.
It's probably less evil than starting a cult, which she has also considered. I've told her often enough that she won't be happy until she's running her own church, and today's service only reinforced this.
Nope Legally Blonde..... oh yes!!!
Bed please :)

The sun as come out big time in London this weekend. I could not resist lying in the sun reading on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I am reading Bill Bryson's 'Down Under', it is interesting reading a foreigners view on my home country. Especially when the country you are in is produce such days that tweek the memory of what a long lazy summer day is like.
It was a delightful day and I took some interesting photos.
Today is a lazy day due to late last night and too much gin. I am not drinking until my birthday.
Well. I've just dyed my hair, which I meant to do ages ago, and was bored, so thought, "Go and dye your hair, and stop being bored". :)
Working all this week at the handy pharmaceuticals provider of this rural community.
And ended up at Holmfirth (where they film Last of the Summer Wine, and a pub had bright yellow plastic wellies of Compo's to raise money for something or other....) Festival. Had planned to go to Crucible's new cd launch, but then housemate went awol. Pah. Then got invited by morris dancer friends down the road to go with them, to the above launch. Then come saturday morning, get a call from another friend "ready in twenty minutes? we have space in the car if you want to come to Holmfirth with us?" Ended up ringing him back and saying "YES!" but feel bad about cancelling on the evening of other friends, as we live on the same road, but they're manically busy. Damn. :(
But played for the boggarts breakfast, got to see mad but excellent morris dancers the bunnies from hell, one of whom complimented me on looking scary in my boggart makeup. So I bowed to him with palms together, which saw a grin from him, being that I had answered his question of "you do know that was a compliment?!", hahhahaaaaa!. Glad to know I'm still able to be scary.
Also bumped into some old friends from Sidmouth, made a new one, got to see Mr Fox dance: - (I don't think I want to be involved, I get much more a kick out of watching them, especially looking rather sinister yesterday, in undertakers top hat and long velvet coat - almost looked like a mascot or associate of strange pastimes for them!) and yes!
and now? More wine!!!! :) I'm with
For me, I suppose it’s a dress rehearsal (well, perhaps not ‘dress’ rehearsal) of my trip to Venezuela in a couple of weeks’ time...

LoudTwitter didn't work. Any magic I have to do that isn't just going through the setup?
- 10/05/08 12:36: Posts are 3 standalone short paras I vaguely recall from the past week, so Twitter actually looks the right way to do this. LJ daily at 6am.
- 10/05/08 16:09: freda is hot and bored and fractious. When the sun abates we'll take her outside.
- 10/05/08 16:11: freda is fascinated by moving greenery. wind on her face always makes her smile.
- 10/05/08 17:01: Backyard w/Freda. Picnic blanket. Wifi! F is AMAZED. Clinging to Daddy but looking all round. BIG GRINS! I could get used to this myself ...

- 10/05/08 17:21: Madam is not here for us, just HAPPENS to be here. Liz is out too w/wifi as well! A has new BIG BOOTS, full Lara Croft. F is DELIGHTED!
- 11/05/08 01:27: oh ghod. I have to be up at 8am. Baptism at 10am. Freda is a mini-me, i.e. exhausting. zzzzzzzzzz.

Today I finalised the line-up that will be joining AlterRed on stage and in the studio for the foreseeable future. I'm quite excited now! This is finally going to be the band I always wanted...I'll post the details and some photo's shortly.
Again thanks to those who encouraged me to finally make the move! You know who you are!
Today has been very lazy. The grandchildren came for the afternoon and it was nice to be able to sit out in the garden playing guess the plant. Because most of the garden has been planted by the previous owners and we have no idea what or where anything is. Quite exciting. Also baked an orange chocolate cake which smells pretty fine if I do say myself. Hope it tastes as good.
Our sheep seem to have disappeared from the next field, we have not seen them for several days. I guess the next time we'll see them will be in the butchers.
My work laptop (HP Compaq 6710b, 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, 1GB memory) already gets three hours in Ubuntu Hardy versus two hours in Windows XP doing the same things (mostly Firefox 3). Mostly from ticklessness, I think. Others have noticed that Hardy (kernel 2.6.24) uses notably less power than even Gutsy (2.6.22).
(There's a "Windows Vista Basic" label on the laptop. I shudder to think how hot that would run. When it's on XP the ventilation port blows like a hairdryer.)
Powertop helps you use even less. It shows precisely what's sending your CPU into a high-power state, and makes helpful suggestions for simple stuff to use less power. ("Press B to switch off Bluetooth.") I should be able to manage 3½ hours easily.
I believe Powertop is in the default installation of Hardy. If not, enter sudo apt-get install powertop from the terminal. Then run it with sudo powertop and glance at it every now and then while you're on battery.
Even if you can't do anything useful with the results (it's really a programmer's tool), it's good for bragging matches with Winders devotees. GO GREEN — GO UBUNTU. Windows' carbon footprint is UNSUSTAINABLE.
